Do you ever have an itch too...

TRAVEL?!

It will be almost a year ago that I shared my experiences with SFACG readers in organizing a month long tour in Europe and then actually traveling there and experiencing Belgium, Italy, France, London and Ireland.

Boy, how a year flies. AND, its crazy how the travel bug can bite you hard and get you all excited and eager to want to travel again.

Because I didn't really take any holidays this summer (just a day here and there) I feel like I am due for a week of holidays here sometime soon in the Fall. I know I could take a week or two if I wanted but I really don't know if a trip this fall is that realistic with all that's going on at work and in my personal life. Fall is always a busy time of year for me. Of course though, I started doing a little researching and looking at some options come this Fall if I had the time/money.

My ultimate dream trip at this point would be to go live in Paris for a month and learn French while I'm there. So, I over-indugled a bit and contacted a few people about costs for renting an apartment in Paris, and emailed an organization about their French language class for a month.

All in all, the breakdown would look like this:
  • 1200-1500 euros/month to rent an apartment in downtown Paris
  • the course would cost around 1000 euros
  • Then you have to think of the cost of flights- essentially a $1000 round trip
  • 500 euros for spending money/food (at least)
So, a months trip to Paris would cost roughly $4000 which is A LOT of money. If I could just leave my job and had money growing off of my backyard tree, I would love to just drop everything come September or October and spend $4000 for the trip of a lifetime. It would truly be rewarding to not only live in Paris to learn the language which is something I've always wanted to learn, but it would be an unreal experience to live on my own in a foreign city.

Do you ever have the same itch to travel? Have you ever acted on an impulse and actually went somewhere?!

$4,000 for a month is actually really cheap... it cost me as much as that the last 2 times I went (2008 was around $5,000 for 12 days). It is worth it though, you'll see stuff you can experience over here.

A friend of mine just got back from a month long course in Paris where she learned french. The cool part is that if you don't pass the exam at the end of the course in Paris, you can take the same course again back in Canada for free. She looooved it and said there was lots of time for sight seeing too. Let me know if you'd like the contact!
