*I apologize in advance for the graphic image of the actual Cove in Taiji, Japan!*
I tweeted the other night that I watched the Oscar winning documentary The Cove. Many people have been asking what my thoughts were on it so I thought I would blog a bit of a review about it. All I can say, is its truly eye opening and inspirational. I have always been an admirer of water creatures, especially penguins, whales and dolphins (I think I watched Free Willy about 35 times as a kid). So when I saw what they were doing to dolphins, it was gut wrenching.
I really hope anyone who hasn't seen this documentary, takes the time to see it. Not only does it bring to light why the dolphin industry is around (because of the first ever dolphin television show called Flipper back in the 60's). The documentary also addresses the actual "Cove" in Taiji, Japan where more than 23,000 dolphins are killed each and every year!!! Dolphins are trapped in the shores of this cove; certain dolphins are selected to be sold for $150,000 each to places like Sea World who want to use dolphins for entertainment purposes and then the rest are slaughtered- and NOT in humane ways at all.
It also talks about how the people of Taiji are trying to justify killing these dolphins for the use of their meat which they wanted to implement as a way to feed all the local schools/children.
One of the craziest facts that the documentary exploits is that dolphin meat has 4,000 ppm (parts per million) of mercury and that the most a person should consume of mercury in a day is 0.04ppm!!!! This is absolutely nuts! Thankfully, after this documentary and the facts that it brought to light, they stopped the implementation of dolphin meat in schools- thank God!
The documentary made me feel like I had to do something- donate, or at least spread the word about the doucmentary because its such a serious problem. Like the documentary An Inconvienatn Truth by Al Gore about Global Warmning, this is another documentary that will change your outlook on our World.
Has anyone else saw it? What are your thoughts on it?

If I had to give it stars to rate, it would be a 5/5 for sure! Make sure you take the time to watch it!
