Now that I have my own car (my parents gave it to me as a gift), I need to start paying insurance on it. They have insurance paid up on it until April but after that, I am on my own!
Originally, my insurance was only going to be $99.18 per month which I didn't think was too terrible. That would mean my car insurance for the year would roughly be $1190 with the additional cost of gas which would probably be $540 ($45/month x 12 months).
BUT I just received word that because of a ticket I received back about 3 weeks ago for $52.50 (going 10km over!) my insurance would be $125.15 per month! Can you freakin' well believe it! I have only had 2 tickets in my entire life and the small $50 ticket is going to cost me an extra $300 a year! Man, you really do have to be so careful while driving! It really makes me think of whether it is use it even having a car because I am paying $268/month on top of car insurance/gas for my monthly bus pass to and from Toronto.
With this slightly higher insurance cost every month, I am going to be paying approximately $3216 (268x12 monthly bus pass) + $540 (gas) + $1501.80 = $5257.80 in transportation!!!! To put it all in perspective, I guess if I had to move to Toronto and didn't have a car/use a monthly bus pass, I would easily be spending more on living expenses so I guess I am saving money but still.. this really sucks :S
Heads up to anyone else out there- learn from my mistake- and either don't get pulled over OR cry REALLY hard to the cop like I didn't do to try and get off your ticket :(
On a slightly better note, my bi-weekly emergency fund/retirement fund money was deposited into my TFSA so my sidebars have gone up slightly :S
Happy Friday Everyone (sorry for the depressing story above)! Hope you enjoy the weekend and this warm weather we are blessed with. I will be reporting to the farm later today after I take the train to meet *A*. So happy to get home to the farm/normalcy- I haven't been home in a while!
