Investing inspiration...

I have never been one to be interested in the stock market. I took an agricultural commodities class as well as a Business Policy class in my last year of University and learnt alot about the stock market, trends pertaining to stocks, and what factors affect a company's stock. I even had a paper nominated for the Guelph Economic essay award on Specatators in the Commodities market. I am learning I guess. As I get older now, I feel as though the stock market is something I should learn more about and maybe start investing in.

Yesterday, I was checking the Globe and Mail while surfing the net and found this great article about a family who instead of buying Christmas gifts last year, pooled their money together and invested it in stocks. They have now realized a 600 per cent market gain!!! Instead of each buying presents, they decided to put all their money together, and then voted on Christmas day which stocks they would invest in as a family.

They invested in stocks such as Ford, Starbucks, Nortel and Sirius Sattelitle Radio.

I decided to add them to my blogroll- their blog can be found over at Wordpress at The Family Fund.

This is definitely something I'm going to do more research on and see what my family thinks of this idea :)

Relaxing after Christmas...

I hope you are relaxing tonight after a beautiful Christmas day. I can't believe that as fast as Christmas comes, it goes by even faster! It seems crazy when you think of how much time, energy and money you put towards Christmas and within a few hours, it is all over. Seeing the look on people's faces when they see your presents though is PRICELESS!

Everyone loved my gifts I gave them- my brothers sweaters, shirt, and chain necklace fit awesome. I did my sister's make-up with the new make-up bag and make-up I gave her- she loved it. And my parents loved their presents, especially the website which was an awesome hit!

I got everything I asked for this Christmas including a Chi Hair straightner, One Tree Hill Season 6 (its my guilty pleasure!), a black classy Lululemon bag bag to use everyday for work, QUICKENS PERSONAL FINANCE (can't wait to use this and share what I think with you!) and of course lots of other things that I love :)

Tonight is always a favourite of mine because its such a relaxing night. My family and I sit around together and watch movies, I usually do some reading or blogging and rest after a full day of presents and too much food!

In light of Christmas day, I thought I would post the video below for Little Saint Nick by the Beach Boys because I heard it this morning on the radio when I was doing chores and milking cows :) It put me in the mood even more than I was for the Christmas spirit. Thought I would share it with you. I don't know about you but I may go to bed early tonight- 6:30am Christmas morning chores is catching up to me :)

My Christmas gifts from *A*....

I got spoiled last night by *A*.. as happy as I was with my gifts that I gave him, he definitely got me stuff that I absolutely LOVE! To begin, he got me my usual cranberry lotion and lip balm from The Body Shop. This has become a tradition of his that he gets for me every year so I kind of expect it now :P I love the smell, and its only available at Christmas time!

He followed next with the Bluetooth headset that I had asked for. I got it working last night and everything- I am hoping to use it a lot, maybe I will try it out on my way home today to the farm :P A very useful gift now that it is law to not use cellphones while driving in Ontario.

He tricked me then with a box that had a coat of his in it as a surprise leading up to the next big box which was the Esprit down filled jacket that we picked out last weekend together. Well, in all fairness,*A* found it and I just agreed that I loved it! And he loved it on me too which is important :) Here is a picture below- mine is similar to this but my jacket has a belt. We got a great deal on it too- 40% off! Woohoo! It is so warm- I even wore it to work this morning. I thought that was all the presents *A* had gotten me, which I was going to be more than happy to accept. I loved my gifts up-until then. And then he brought out the painting.

Now in all honesty, doesn't this look professional, like a real artist painted this?! Well, *A* painted it for me! It took him a few days and it still isn't a 100% dry but it is the most beautiful painting I have ever seen! It reminds both of us of my home, when we are down at the water looking across the river- this is the view you see of the other side. He said that is where he found his "inspiration." I am truly in awe of how talented *A* is- he has this other side to him that I feel I am still getting to know each and everyday. He has this whole other artistic side that I am just amazed by. Not only did he teach himself to play guitar, but he can paint?! Where did I find this guy?! haha I am truly a lucky (and spoiled brat!) girl :)

And what did I get A? On top of the Real Estate magazine subscription that I got him, I got him a dress shirt from Mexx that I think he will look great in on New Years, a toolbox that he needed and a leather suitcase for work now that he is a professional :)

Hope you all get as spoiled as we did :) Happy Holidays!

Unveiling the new website [and dad's Christmas present]

Happy Christmas Eve Day Everyone! I hope you are as excited as I am that Christmas is here! I have the tunes blasted at work because there is NO ONE in the office- I think there may be 3-4 of us at the most. I am counting down the hours until I can hit the road and get back to the Farm for Christmas! Crossing my fingers that traffic is as good as it was today coming in to Toronto!

I have been meaning to share with you, the final product of the website I designed and created for my family farm, Crovalley Holsteins. This has been a project for the past couple of months but I finally got it done. This is my first time designing a website on my own so it was a pretty of a learning process as well.

I had it done a while ago but thought it would be a PERFECT present for my dad for Christmas seeing as he has been bugging me to create one for months (although he has NO IDEA how much work it takes!). There are still a few things I need to fix on it, add pictures, fix pictures, etc but overall, I am super happy with how it turned out! You will also see that I added a blog to the website! haha Personal touch of mine. Thought it was a great place to share more intimate things with our friends and customers.

So without further adieu, here is my family farm website Crovalley Holsteins. Check it out and let me know what you think :)

Christina's Decade in Review..

I saw this idea on Five Blondes and had a blast reading about all that had went on in their lives in the past decade. It inspired me to write my own. I was a bit worried at first that I would not remember 10 years back but as I started to write, the memories just came back to me so easily.

In 2000, I was in Grade 7 (yikes!)- a little keener at school who was very interested in Y2K and how the Millennium would affect us. I was very disappointed when 2000 rang in and all the hype turned out to be nothing. I was really good friends with my teacher and the Grade 8 teacher- I got called a Teachers Pet but I think my maturity level at this point was way beyond my years. I would keep in touch with these teachers years later! I was also the apple of my parents eye :)

In 2001, I graduated from Elementary school, cleaned house with academic awards and never looked back as I entered high school. I would meet my best friend *K*, who ironically was born on the same day as me- June 23rd! I loved being a new girl at school because all the older boys paid attention to you. It really was my "coming of age" in terms of becoming a young lady and entering the World of "Boys." High School was awesome.

In 2002, I was more concerned about being popular than I was with school but I still did really well at balancing both- or at least I tried. I soon realized that friends who I thought would be my best friends for life would stab me in the back. I quickly learnt to have a tougher skin when it came to chatty comments. I began to have my own true identify, stepping out independently on my own and not doing things just because everyone else was doing them.

In 2003, I became really close with the group of girl friends that I still remain best friends with today. I had my first fake ID which was an unbelievable feeling! I used it every chance I could, wherever I could. I was really into 4-H and cattle showing and met a boy who I loved who would eventually break my heart. I soon got over it- well after some time. I loved helping out on the farm and did this every summer as a job. My family remained a huge part of who I was and who I am do this day.

In 2004, it was my graduating year at high school. I put a lot of pressure on myself to get great grades so I could go to my first choice University (Guelph!) and get scholarships/awards. It all paid off as I got accepted to Guelph and paid for my first year of school with not one cent of my own money! I had my first boyfriend- the son of my dad's good friend. It was a dream come true at that point because we were from the same small towns and knew all the same people. My girl friend's and I partied every weekend and thought we were the coolest cats. Life didn't have the pressures and challenges that it soon would- we were just living wild and young (is that a line from a song or something?!) I also fell out with one of my best friends during Grade 12 as we lost touch with each other- I took this really hard.

In 2005, a milestone came for me in my young adult life- I was named the CNE Ambassador of the Fairs for Ontario as my hometown Norwood Fair Ambassador. It was an amazing year and the year that I consider really jump started my passion for making a difference. My brother was involved in a dirt bike accident that summer- he spent a month in Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. I went and stayed with him for a few days- we are lucky he is still with us today. That Fall, I started my first year of University which was the most amazing year of my life. I loved residence- I don't know how I did it- I hardly ever slept, drank and ate the worst beverages/food- didn't study and danced way too much! I broke up with my first boyfriend only a week into school knowing I was too young and just not into it- he was heartbroken. I still don't think he has gotten over it to this day :(

In 2006, the first day back to University to begin my second semester of first year, I met the boy of my dreams. He helped carry my bags into residence as I had taken the bus back with 2 huge bags that could have fit a small child in them. I got the courage to go back down a few days later and ask him (*A) out for coffee. The rest would be history- it will be 4 years in February :) I think when I first met him I used the word "smitten" and still to this day, I would be. On a sadder note, my dad was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma the day after I returned home for the summer. I had never saw my dad cry until that day. It was a really difficult time for my family but it reminded me of how much family means and comes together in desperate times.

In 2007, I returned back to school excited to start a new adventure in my own house at school although my heart still remained at home with my dad/family. I soon realized that all the fun and games of first year would not be the same in second year. People change. I took school a little more seriously but still managed to party almost 4-5 nights of the week with my best friends. Man we had so many great memories. I was glad to see Summer come though as I missed my family and friends although the downside to this was that I would have to say good-bye to *A* again for the summer when he returned home to Manitoba. I re-connected with the friend that I had fallen out with back in Grade 12. It was like we had never lost time between us and caught up very fast. I also won the Canadian Young Speakers in Agriculture Public Speaking Competition- another huge highlight for me. My dad would also be told he was in remission which was a huge blessing- he is still in remission to this day.

In 2008, I took on more responsibility during school as I became President of College Royal- an organization that I still hold dear to my heart. I don't know how I did it- it was like a part time job and I did 6 courses in the Winter semester. Surprisingly enough, I got great grades. At the end of the year, my best friend and I who had roomed together since first year decided that it would be best for our friendship if we lived with other people. I randomly went on a housing website and found a group of girls looking for one person to move in with-this would be one of the greatest finds/decisions I ever made. I would spend my last summer apart with *A* which got tougher each summer as we became closer. Summers also started to get tougher as I got older and had to live under the roof of my parents with their rules. I started my blog in October of that year and a highlight for me which gets mentioned often, is when I won Best Costume for "Sarah Palin" that Halloween.

In 2009, I started my last year of University :( Sad I know. I had a heavy course load including taking 7 courses to finish my degree and get my Certificate in Leadership. Courses were a lot of work but I managed to get great grades. The girls I found and moved in with turned out to be great girls and awesome friends- they are the girls I still live with today. I traveled with my school Marketing team for a competition down in Atlanta, Georgia for a week at the end of school- it was beautiful down there! I graduated from University in June- it was a really weird time for me as I battled with reality to think that the best years of my life were now over. *A* decided to stay here in Ontario for the awesome job he landed (or for me I like to think)! I traveled to Europe in September for a month for a cattle show and to travel before returning to the full time job I have now.

The Next Decade- It is weird to think that 10 years from now, I will be 32 years old. I am in my prime right now! I expect (or hope at least!) the next ten years will bring along a house, paying off all my debt, marriage, maybe a baby?!, career advancement or at least finding a job that truly makes me happy each and everyday and of course- health and happiness :).

Phew, the last 10 years seems like alot went on. And I am sure I left out a whole bunch of details. This was an awesome recap- I had alot of fun writing this post. You should try it too- thanks for the idea Five Blondes!

It's almost here!!

I feel like I'm getting a little more excited each day closer to Christmas. For me, Christmas Eve is almost as exciting as Christmas day because of the traditions that my family and I have tomorrow. We go to church tomorrow night, afterward we visit local neighbours and drop off Christmas gifts, go to my Grandparents house for a pre-Christmas meal and then we exchange gifts between siblings tomorrow night. We always end up watching a Christmas movie too before bed- usually Christmas Vacation and then leave out some cookies and milk for my dad Santa which I know is kind of stupid considering we all know Santa isn't real anymore but its tradition.

I am so excited to see the looks on my family's' faces when they see what I got each of them! They always look forward to my Christmas presents- they say they are the best :) I am also VERY excited to see what *A* gets me when we exchange gifts tonight- is it bad that I am so freakin' excited to wear the jacket he got me.. will share more details once I actually GET the jacket tonight.

In light of Christmas in 37 hours, I thought I would post this beautiful picture of my ideal Christmas tree- right by a fireplace which is what I dream about one day when I own a house :)

Ouch!

Here I am trying to help my personal finances by getting books out of the local Public Library and then I go and forget to hand in 2 movies I rented and now I have $23.75 worth of charges on my account :( I have been really kicking myself lately about stupid and meaningless charges such as this one that take away from my savings.

Looks like I shouldn't borrow movies or books until I know how to take them back on time, and now that I have a car, there is no excuse!

Christmas shopping finally done [but overbudget]

Last night I braved the mall and stores and got everything I needed to get to finalize my Christmas shopping. I went in with a list and only came back out with what I needed. I even had time to price compare at a few stores to make sure I got what I wanted. I think the most trickiest person I had to shop for was *A*- I knew exactly what I wanted to get him but had trouble finding exactly what I wanted.

All in all, I am really happy with what I got everyone but my bank account isn't happy :( Here is the breakdown of what I spent on Christmas this year (and the Grand Total and the bottom is ridiculous!)

Sister:
- Make up bag with make up and jewelery inside: $46.28+ $38.03
- Kinder Surprise- $2.79 (its been a tradition since we were kids so don't laugh :P)

Older Brother:
- Lacoste shirt- $54.23
- Sweater- $25.44
- Kinder Surprise- $2.79

Younger Brother:
- Sweater- $25.44
- Chain- $34.97 (AMAZING DEAL!)
- Kinder Surprise- $2.79

Mom
- Michael Buble CD- $16.00
- Chi Hairspray-2 bottles- $22.58
- Serving Tray for Parties- $11.02

Dad
- Website= FREE!!!!
- Lounge pants- $9.99
- Box of Chocolates- $4.99

*A*-
- Magazine subscription (which he already knows about)- $76.65
- Other items (if I posted them, it would spoil the surprise!)- $180.43

Roommates-
- Shot glasses x 4= $18.08
- LCBO =$27.80
- Gift boxes =$15.14

Extras:
- Donation to Lymphoma Foundation of Canada= $100.00
- Donation to Charity for *A*'s Parents= $75.00

GRAND TOTAL= $790.44

If you recall, I created a Christmas budget back a few weeks ago and estimated my costs to be $690.00! So really, I was only a $100.44 off but still, its a lot of money when you think of how much you could do with this money that would last you a lot longer than a few minutes of excitement and thrill.

I could have really taken the cheap route this year considering I am paying off student loans and just started my first full time job and could have chinced out on gifts. I could have got everyone 1 thing and that's it.

But I don't regret spending this much on people I love- I don't get my siblings or parents anything for their birthdays during the year so this is my way to say thank you for putting up with me and showing them how much I love them :) I definitely love giving presents more than I love getting them so I am excited to see the look on their faces when they see what I got them!!

Ok, I take that back a bit- I do love getting presents a little bit.. *A* and I exchange gifts tomorrow night.. can't wait!

Christmas Holidays at work...

I wondered why everyone was so busy last week in the office, trying to get everything done before the holidays. I thought to myself- isn't anyone going to be in the office next week before Christmas? And the answer is- no! I should have known when the commute into Toronto this morning was better than usual. I should have known that there wasn't going to be anyone in the office when there was no line at the Tim Hortons and there was no one riding the elevators. In fact, it seems like NO ONE came to work this morning and I bet the rest of the week is going to be like this!

So my mind started thinking of possible things you COULD do at work if you really wanted too when no one was in the office. Mind you, I can't do these this week because I actually have work to do but if your boss was out of the office, you sure as heck could! Or if you have to work next week between Christmas and New Years which I think will have even less people than this week, then you could do any of these following things:
  • Watch movies
  • Watch re-runs of your favourite shows online
  • Blog!
  • Check out your bank statements/do personal finances
  • Do online Christmas shopping
  • Read
  • Write Christmas cards/thank you notes
  • Make To-Do Lists
  • Accomplish things on your To-Do List
  • Send overdue emails
  • Facebook (if you have it at work)
  • Plan a trip
  • Organize photos on your camera
  • Organize your files
  • Take up a hobby (i.e. knitting!)
  • Book doctors appointments, etc
  • Clean out your inbox
  • Research something you have always wanted to learn more about
  • Scrapbook

DISCLAIMER: I do not take any responsibility if you are caught doing any of the above activities or your work starts to deteriorate because of any of the above activities. These are only mere suggestions- do at your own risk :)

2010 New Years Resolutions!!!

These are the goals and resolutions I have set for myself in 2010. Hopefully I have as much luck and willpower as I did in 2009 to achieve what I want:

1. Get promoted with my job- I would love to take on more responsibility at a higher level with my job if all continues to go well! I think I can definitely handle a more challenging position and are up for the task!

2. Find a city/town to settle down in- Once May 1st comes, and my roommates and I have to move out of my house in Guelph, I will have to move somewhere all by myself :( Unless, my roommates and I can magically stay together! I need to start looking for a place to settle down in that feels like home to me. Not sure if that is Toronto or not :(

3. Save $1000 for birthday trip to Vegas- I blogged about this a few weeks ago and I really want this to happen! My friends from home always back out at last minute so if I get things organized ahead of time, I should be able to get everyone on board to go! I have never celebrated my birthday before in fine fashion and why not do it when its my Champagne birthday!! 23 on the 23rd :)

4. Pay off half of student loan- I have under $20,000 on my student loan and ideally I would love to save $10,000 to pay it off. I could even try SUPER hard and pay if all over in 2010! That would be AMAZING! But I have to be realistic, so I'm going to say half would be just fine with me. After I get my student loan payed off..I have a few other debts I would like to get taken care of.

5. Do more schooling- I have always wanted to get my Masters but will have to wait another year or two until I have more work experience. I would love to do a course or two this year just to keep my skills up as well as learn about something that interests me- event planning, graphic designing, etc. We'll see if I have time in 2010!

6. Get my POC designation- POC stands for Professional Organizers of Canada. I may be a huge nerd but I have always LOVED organizing and find its a hobby of mine. I would love to get my designation so I can do a bit of part time work with organizing, event planning, etc.

7. Do more part time work- This goes along with #6 but beyond organizing, I would really like to continue to earn some extra cash by attending focus groups, doing odd/contract jobs on evenings and weekends, and continue to work as Marketing Manager for my family farm. I think if I can do all of these things, I could raise a little extra money to put towards #4!!

8. Learn to snowboard- One of my only epic fails from 2009, I would really like to take snowboarding lessons in 2010. *A* is really good at snowboarding so I figure he could teach me so then we could both snowboard together. I guess we just have to make the time to go to the Hills!

9. Go away with *A* somewhere warm- A and I have both never been away to Cuba, Mexico or any of those places where all my friends have probably gone like five times! We both really want to go somewhere as kind of a celebration gift to ourselves for graduating. I would love to do this in 2010, but considering I really want to go to Vegas for my birthday, and I'm paying off student loans, this may just not happen. At least I can dream a little...

10. Get a gym membership/start working out- I use to have one but with traveling to Europe, starting my new job in Toronto and the commute, I stopped working out altogether. I know this is a cliche goal to have for the New Year- almost everyone says they want to go to the gym once the New Year is upon us. I got inspiration from Carrie on the Cheap who wrote a blog post about how lifting weights really helped her lose weight and become really passionate about working out. Hence, why I have decided to ask for a set of 12,15 and 20 pound weights for Christmas!!

11. Twitter more- this is a last minute edition to my list but something I think is pretty achieveable. Since setting up my account this past year, I have only tweeted around 50 times which is pretty awful in the Twitter world. Here is my pledge to do better!

The Olympic torch picture as promised...

I apologize for the delay in posting this picture. As much as I love taking pictures, I always find it a bit of a hassel uploading the pictures and I never really find the time to sit down and upload them.

So here it is. I blogged about my Olympic torch experience last week when I was in Toronto. Here is the picture of the Olympic torch being held by one of the many torch bearers that night. It was an amazing experience- once in a lifetime kind of experience. I'm just lucky I got to see it!

My wonderful Christmas-y weekend...

I had such a relaxing weekend- it was a nice change. I always love having some down-time to myself after crazy-busy work weeks. Its always nice to spend some quiet time with either my roommates or *A*.

My roommates held a Christmas party on Friday night- we all had Elf hats on and the boys dressed up as Santas or if you were *A*, you wore the ugliest Christmas sweater you could find :) Saturday morning, I sat in bed watching The Fugutive with Harrison Ford (great movie!)- I kind of felt lazy considering if I were at home on the Farm, I would have been up and at it by 6:30am (or 8:30 some mornings when I sleep in :P). I got up in time to see all my roommates off before they left for Christmas holidays. I was sad to see them go :( *A* and I went to this cute little old-style movie theatre on Saturday night and watched The Bad Leutenant with Nicolas Cage- kind of a weird but good movie at the same time. The movie theater was super quaint- probably only 50 seats, an old screen- it was definititely not your typical Galaxy Cinema. It was a refreshing experience- felt like we were back in the old days when everything wasn't so commercialized....
Yesterday, I did some cleaning, and we did some Christmas shopping- *A* got my winter jacket for me- I will share with you what it looks like when I exchange gifts with *A* on Wednesday night :) We came home last night and I wrapped most of my Christmas gifts. I was a bit rattled when I realized that the sweater I bought for my one brother yesterday already had the draw-strings torn on it. I am planning on taking it back tonight and hopefully getting a new one!
*A* and I also made a Christmas wreath out of vines and cedar we got on the Farm a few weekends ago. Here is *A* to the left making the wreath in front of my Christmas tree. Below is what the wreath looked like at the beginning- I give all the credit to *A*- he made the initial structure of the wreath- I didn't realize how artistic and creative he was :) The other pictures are the final product proudly displayed on my wall in the living room next to the tree. I LOVE this wreath- not only was it a great project for *A* and I to do together- but it was FREE!!

So close I can feel it...

I am referring to 2 things here- 1 one being that one week from now it will be Christmas day :D I will admit, I had a lot of Christmas excitement right after the Royal with all my blog posts but now, I am not as excited about Christmas. I don't know why- maybe its because all my decorations are up now and have become part of the scenery in my house or maybe its because I am stressed to the max about Christmas gifts?!

Secondly though, I can taste the finish line when it comes to Christmas shopping. I just have to buy 2 more gifts for my brothers which I think I know what I'm getting them and then I just have 2 gifts for *A* that I have to pick up. I also have to keep looking for a winter jacket for *A* to buy me for Christmas, as he surprised me the other day with my early Christmas gift :)

I will be so glad when I get everything done and I get go home and wrap everything and not have to worry about last minute shopping.

As close as I'm going to get to the Olympics...

After my all day meeting yesterday at work, I had supper with my colleagues and then headed down to the Eatons Centre in Toronto to do some last minute Christmas shopping- or at least try too.

When I arrived at the Eatons Centre, there was a huge crowd of people gathered on the streets- I asked someone what was going on- the Olympic torch was coming- duh!?! So, I waited with everyone in the cold for the torch to be brought down Yonge street. It finally arrived about 10 minutes later... As luck would have it, I had my camera in my purse for some odd reason so I got some awesome close up pictures- including one awesome shot of the torch barer with the flame held high over her head.

It was such a magical moment for me because I know that the Winter Olympics may never be back in Canada again (in my lifetime anyway and lets be serious, where else would they hold the Winter Olympics in Canada seeing as Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver have all had the Olympics?!) I won't be going out to Vancouver in February 2010 but at least I know I shared in a piece of the history and magic.

Unfortunately, I don't have my USB cable right now to upload the picture but stay tuned for the pic soon when I upload it on my blog!!

My morning from hell...

I am on a break right now from the day long meeting that I organized and am attending here at work. I had to rant and share a quick overview about my morning from hell.
The one day that I needed to be at work super early to set up and get stuff ready for this meeting I organized today at work, and things were disastrous.
In a short form version, I:
  • Missed my bus
  • Had to DRIVE to Toronto
  • Got to work a half an hour late which means I was half an hour late for my meeting this morning
  • The food that I ordered for the meeting for breakfast got delivered to the wrong floor
  • Material wasn't provided at the beginnig of the meeting like I asked my colleague to do..
What else could have gone wrong today?!!!!!!!????!!!!

Christmas present spoiled...

I ordered *A* a subscription to the Canadian Real Estate Magazine because I know how much he loves reading them. I wasn't obviously going to post on here what I got *A* because I knew that he would read the blog. I ordered the magazine subscription to be delivered to my house because *A* may be moving in the New Year and I wanted to ensure the magazine got to him.

I ordered the subscription and was told that the first magazine would be delivered in February. As an additional gift with the subscription, I was given a real estate book that I was going to give *A* as well.

Well, 2 days ago, I got a package in the mail for *A* and without thinking anything, I gave him the package yesterday when we met for coffee. It totally did not cross my mind that this could possibly be the real estate book. Well, he opened up, and inside the package was not only the book but a letter saying Congratulations on your subscription! So, one of my Christmas presents to *A* is spoiled- oh well, he at least loves the gift.

In return today, he told me one of the gifts that we was going to give me because he wanted me to pick it out. He is getting me a long, puffy winter jacket that I really, really want for Christmas. We're going tomorrow night after work, shopping in Toronto in hopes to find the perfect jacket- courtesy of *A* :)

My 2010 Horoscope...

I was always big into astrology back in high school. I would literally check my horoscope on bubble.com to see what it would say each day. I obviously got too busy with life and have stopped checking my horoscope everyday. *A* thinks I'm crazy when I read the horoscope section of a newspaper- he thinks you can spin what the horoscope says to interpret it anyway you want. I have always been a firm believer either way of astrology.

I recently picked up a magazine at my grandma's this past weekend called Our Canada and came across an article written about 2010 horoscopes. I couldn't resist reading mine. I consider myself a cusp baby because I was born a few days into Cancer after Gemini. So, I read both horoscopes and was surprised to find that they pretty much sum me up to a tee. Here are mine for 2010-

Cancer
Characteristics- Emotional, devoted, and protective of loved ones. You are intuitive of other people's feelings and thoughts, but need to work on letting go of the past.
Outlook-A year of renewal and finding your voice, which will enable you to make key strides within your sphere of influence.

Gemini
Characteristics- Your moods can change quickly: obliging and communicative one moment, indecisive and restless the next. Try to focus your energy on one thing at a time.
Outlook- A year where you'll finally start getting answers to some of your pressing concerns.

Westjet Redemption

I was not 100% happy with the flight time I had booked to come back home from Winnipeg- I was booked to leave at 6am and *A*'s birthday is the night before so more than likely, I wouldn't be getting a ride to the airport from him. I have been checking everyday on the Westjet website to see if the flight *A* is taking back to Toronto is cheaper or on sale.

Well, today was my lucky day! It went on sale! So I called into Westjet- only waited about 40 minutes, and asked the lady if she could switch my flight to the later flight. She did this- AND, even waived the $50 charge that they usually apply when switching flights. The flight cost me an extra $100! I am totally happy! This will be the first time I fly with *A* anywhere- I'm sorry excited now :)

Now I can somewhat say that Westjet redeemed themselves- although, I am still sending in my professionally written letter to Westjet about my fiasco last Friday! Sorry Westjet :(

Not making smart choices...

I was so busy yesterday at work and had a bit of confusion with my bus ticket last night (forgot to buy it, then showed up at the bus station to wait behind 30 other people for the bus, missed my bus, had to wait for the next one, etc) that I didn't get a chance to blog about my little Christmas get together that I was hosting last night at my house.

I had over a group of friends over who were a close group of friends of mine throughout University. We all have hectic schedules and busy lives so we always make sure to get together at least once a year to re-live the good ol' days. I bought a few bottles of wine ($34.35) and got a few appetizers which came to around $35-$40 so it was a bit expensive but it was my Christmas gift to all 8 of them so it was cheap if you figure the cost per person for throwing the party. It was awesome to catch up with everyone to see how things were with school, jobs, boyfriends/girlfriends- our one friend even just got back from Egypt so she had lots of stories and pictures to share!

Well, after a few bottles of wine were finished and we had got into some great laughs about stories from the past, the party started to get a little wild. Before I knew it, we were dancing in my living room with the music blaring. They talked me into going to this local pub that we use to go to all the time throughout University. The good thing is, I only spent $15.00 at the pub, got a free ride home with a friend, and was in bed by 2am!! Yikes!

It was an unexpected wild night that was so much fun catching up with awesome friends! Although I am sooooo tired today at work, it was all worth it. You only live once right?! As I always like to say "you can sleep when you are dead!" A bit morbid maybe?! Haha

A Recap on New Years Resolutions of 2009

The following were what I posted almost a year ago as resolutions that I wanted to achieve in 2009...

1. Learn to knit (which I have already mastered by the way!)- PASS/FAIL- Starting mastering but then failed horribly the rest of the year- I haven't touched the knitting knettles since last January!

2. Learn to snowboard- FAIL- I thought I was going to spend more time on the slopes last winter but when I went, all I did was ski so I have failed horribly at this mission. Maybe now that I have my evenings and weekends a little more free from schoolwork, I will try to get A to fit some snowboard lessons in with me :)

3. Volunteer at a community event- PASS/FAIL- I can't think of somewhere this past year that I went and volunteered at on my own time. I did though join Big Brothers Big Sisters this past year which isn't a community event, rather more of a group or project so I did somewhat achieve this resolution!
4. Get involved with the Canadian Cancer Society- PASS- I did get involved this year by participating in the Guelph Relay for Life which took place in March! It was a moving experience that I blogged about- I hope to participate in my local Relay for Life at home in September!

5. Smile more :)- FAIL-Really, really trying to do this but I know I could do better...

6. Watch more funny movies- PASS- Well, I did go and see quite a few funny movies in theatres this year as well as tried to rent more... still don't feel like I have watched the kind of "knee slappers" that I was hoping for. Either way, I have had lots of awesome laughs with A and my roommates and friends :)

7. Be more decisive in my decision making- PASS- I definitely think I have achieved that this year. I make decisions a lot more faster and consider my own judgment and not others opinions which helps me make decisions a lot faster now!

8. Try to not get mad as easily and as often- PASS!!!! This has been a huge one for me. After returning home from Europe, I felt like I had a new found perspective on a lot of things including not getting as mad as easily. Although I strayed from the path a few times, I feel like I have did a lot better job of keeping my cool and having a level head. There is always room for improvement for the New Year though!

9. Not be as critical on myself and others- PASS- I definitely think I have been able to not let what other people think/say affect me as much. And in turn, I haven't been as hard on myself and others. I feel like I'm at a really great place in my life right now. Things are looking up!

10. BLOG MORE!- PASS, PASS, PASS- I had record months this past year where I was typing upward of 65 posts per month which is more than 2 posts per day!! I am really proud of myself. It has been a really rewarding feeling, sharing all of my thoughts with my readers! Thank you for continuing to read Stories from a Country Girl :)

Overall, I would say it was a great year for me for fulfilling my goals for the year. I would say achieving 8/10 resolutions is awesome! Its funny though now as I think about and write down my resolutions for 2010, how much more mature I have become and how much my interests have changed. Comparing my 2009 and 2010 goals, my 2009 resolutions were very simple, but really meant alot to me. My 2010 resolutions really show my growth into a young adult!

Hopefully I have as much luck at achieving my 2010 resolutions as I did this past year :)

An easy hundred bucks...

I signed up for a focus group that was taking place last night close to Guelph. It started at 7:30 which I knew was going to be tight considering I had my Christmas work party and then had to run and catch the bus at 5 to make it back in time to travel to the focus group.

Well of course, travel was bad last night and I didn't make it back home until 7:00. I called the focus group moderator to tell them I would be late- they said this was fine. When I got there about 10 minutes late, the girl at the front desk said that they had already started without me. They would pay me anyways... and would send me home!

Wow, I thought making a $100 was easy enough attending a focus group, let alone being sent home without doing anything for a $100.00!

I plan on putting all of my extra money earned away in a high interest e-savings account... here is a solid start anyways!

Christmas Work Party tonight!

Tonight is my first official Christmas work party! I am kind of torn right now as to what to do because I have a focus group to attend tonight that I have to get back for in time. I know I shouldn't have accepted it if it was on the same night as my work party but I just couldn't pass up the chance to make $100.

My work party is from 3:30-6:30 but my bus leaves at 5:00. I am thinking of slipping over for a bit but where I am torn is the cost to attend the party- it is $25.00 (all proceeds go to United Way).

I guess I can't really be scrooge and not go just because it is too expensive. That's the new "savvy saver" coming out in me. I will have to pay the $25.00 and attend, make sure I show my face to the right people and then high-tail it out of there in time to make my bus.

Is that rude of me to leave so early?!

Westjet's Customer Service is the cherry on top of disatrous..

I blogged a while back about a bad customer service experience I had. But Friday's experience with Westjet took the icing on the cake. I think it was the worst customer service experience I have EVER had and I am not only ranting about it on here, I have also wrote a letter that I will be mailing out shortly to Westjet.

I wanted to book flights to Winnipeg when there were crazy seat sales on Friday that were just too good to pass up! When I went to book the flights, everything went through but then an error message came up in red saying that I had to call in to their customer service number. I had the reservation number written down (thankfully because I didn't get a confirmation email from them at this point and then my computer shut down so my information/reservation would have been lost!)

I called into the number and was automatically put on hold- with the annoying music playing in the background. I sat around for an HOUR AND A HALF before a lady finally came on. As soon as she started to speak, I picked up the phone in excitement, only to hear a click on the other end. The lady had hung up or got disconnected! SO.. I had to call back in. And this time, it went to a voice recorded machine that said I could leave a number so they could call me back. I left my name/number and was ensured that they would call me back between 1 1/2 hours- 2 1/2 hours!

About an hour and a half into it- I thought I would call back to the number to sit on hold again and this time, it didn't go to the voice recorded machine, it kept me on hold like the first time. At about 11:45, another lady FINALLY came on the phone and helped me! When I mentioned to her that I had been disconnected first and then called back to leave my name/number for a call back, she mentioned that most times, it never calls you back?!

So after 4 hours of waiting, being hung up on, and waiting some more, I was not only completely annoyed with the fact that they kept me waiting THAT LONG but I was also so upset that they would even have a call back system if they AREN'T GOING TO CALL YOU BACK!

Thank heavens the lady on the other line was so nice. I was going to ask for some kind of compensation because I had been told by a friend that if you ever run into these kinds of problems, you can usually get something out of it- a credit towards another flight, etc. I was just so thankful I finally got to speak to someone AND that I got the seats I had booked- at one point, she said she wasn't sure if she could get me the cheap seats I had booked because they were all gone! If that had of happened, I don't know what I would have did?!

Either way, I am going to send in the letter I frantically typed as I sat around for 4 hours on a Friday night waiting to speak to a Westjet representative. I usually am so impressed with Westjet's service but was thoroughly disappointed with them this time. If you implement a new reservation system like they did a few months ago, don't you think you'd have the kinks worked out by now?! I am just thankful that I was only on hold for 4 hours- I have heard people waiting for up to 7 hours!!!!

Have you recently had a bad experience with Westjet?!

Change in holiday plans..

I blogged on Friday how Westjet was having amazing seat sales all of a sudden. I had checked the price of flights to Winnipeg earlier last week and they totaled almost $700 for a round trip to the Peg. It wasn't worth it. Then I checked on Wednesday and prices had dropped to about $450.00 which was still too expensive for a trip to visit *A* and his family/friends.

Then on Friday, a total round trip flight was only $330! Flights going to Winnipeg were only $59.99!!! I was going to book but hesitated because I hadn't asked for days off with my boss and wasn't sure if I wanted too. When I got home on Friday night with *A* to the farm, we started discussing how even if I booked the flights at the cheap price, I could always transfer them to another time and use them later on if my boss wouldn't allow the time off.

So, I went ahead and booked them. But during the process of booking them, there was an error with my credit card or something and they asked me to call in. Well, 4 hours on hold later (its a llooooonnnnngggg story which deserves it own post!) I finally got the seats I wanted and on sale still!

The total price of my trip- $334.00!!! I emailed my boss as soon as I booked the flights on Friday night to ask her for the time off- and got her approval on Saturday morning!

I am officially heading to the Peg on December 28th where I will get to celebrate New Years and *A*'s birthday with him!

Now I just have to see if I can get my flight coming back to Toronto switched so I can fly home with *A*....

A weekend on the farm...

For some reason, I am overly excited for this weekend! *A* and I are heading out in a few minutes for a weekend on the farm in the Country. We don't have any big plans, just maybe shopping with my family tomorrow which is great because I need to get some gift ideas.

We both love our weekends on the Farm because we just get to relax after a crazy week in the city. Its also a great chance to re-connect with those "Country roots" that we both miss so much throughout the week. I mean, I love dressing up everyday in the Big City, but there is nothing like putting on old clothes and doing chores down at the barn :) Haha I am such a hick!

I hope this weekend we don't freeze though- its pretty darn cold outside!

I hope you all have a great weekend- only more days until Christmas :)

Happy Friday!

The World we live in keeps getting smaller and smaller...

Ok, so here is the scenario. I saw an add on Craigslist for planning a guy and his girlfriend's vacation coming up in February. They want to go to DisneyWorld- they must be fulfilling a childhood fantasy. They are looking for someone to plan out all the details of their trip from flights to hotels, tourist attractions and even create a detailed itinerary.

I quickly emailed him with a proposal to do this job because I mean come on, what a great easy way to make some extra ca$h while doing something that I am good at and enjoy doing! I love planning details of events and trips. I just did it for my trip to Europe so I am sure I am capable of doing this kind of job. I also mentioned in my proposal who I worked for and where I worked as part of my work experience.

I got a reply back this morning saying that he would make a decision this weekend but he greatly appreciated the "very professional" proposal I had sent to him and would let me know as soon as he made up his mind.

But get this- he also told me that he use to work for the exact company that I do, in the SAME building on the SAME floor!!! I got a good chuckle out of that- what are the odds that some post on Craigslist would be a person who use to work in the same company as me?!

Wow, the World is getting smaller and smaller every day!

Spreading a little Christmas cheer..

I don't know about you, but with Christmas right around the corner, I am so excited that sometimes I just can't contain myself. Even at work.
Since about the last week in November, I have been listening to Christmas music at work through an online radio stream. I thought I would share the link with you so you can have some Christmas music playing in the background at work. It definitely gets me even more in the holiday spirit.
Check out the link here. There are many online stations to choose Christmas tunes from- Top 40 Christmas music, Country Christmas music and my favourite, Classic Christmas music.
Just like to spread a little holiday cheer :)

MAJOR SEAT SALE ON WESTJET!

You can tell by my capital letters that I am freakin' excited about this! I blogged yesterday on how I thought the prices on Westjet were a great deal and now today they are EVEN BETTER!

I just checked flights to and from Winnipeg- flights there are $59.00!!!! A round trip flight is only $334.25 right now which is stellar compared to last week! Man, this is tempting me so bad to book flights to go visit *A* over the holidays!

Now on to asking my boss for the 3 days off.... ah shucks :(

Holidays without a credit card...

I can still remember the exact night last year when I received my very first VISA in the mail. It was as if I had really entered the "adult" world and would finally have some financial freedom. What a lot of people don't warn you about, is that financial freedom with a VISA comes long-term consequences if you use your VISA recklessly and after abusing my VISA privileges for the first 6 months, I am proud to say I have stopped.

I have not used my VISA since this past September and have no plans in the future of using it. Until I know I am able to use it periodically for a big purchase (booking flights, vacations, etc) I don't feel the need to use it for the small purchases.

This past summer, I decided to change my debit card settings so I could have unlimited transactions for $10.95/month. Now I try and debit everything so I have a record of how much I spent and where. It makes reconciling my budget and records at the end of each month, much simpler! Using my debit card also helps me to keep a real perspective of what I am spending as it is real money that is being taken away from my account each and every time. So this Christmas, I am not touching my VISA card- I will be using my debit card so I don't over-indulge!

I am also proud to say I have paid $300 to my VISA in the last week and a half to pay off the amount owing. Almost there... I can feel it!

What vices would you give up?

Vice (described by Websters Dictionary) as a "moral weakness, practice or habit".

I saw an interesting segment on Global News a few nights ago before I went to bed, that showed the results of a recent poll across Canada. It asked people what vices they would give up if they had to give one up that would allow them to leave 5 extra years. Out of the three choices of alcohol, red meat or TV, these were the results:

55% would NOT give up T.V 45% would NOT give up red meat 34% would NOT give up alcohol.

The results were predictable I guess. Everyone loves their TV, we all know that! But I can't believe that 45% of people wouldn't give up red meat compared to alcohol! Don't judge me that I personally think alcohol is a higher priority than red meat..I would for sure give up red meat before I ever sacrificed the other 2!

Then this got me to thinking- if I had to give up some vices if my life depended it on it, what would they be, and here is what I thought of:
  • shopping- wouldn't want to do it but would do it if I had too
  • driving a car- I would somehow get around- I don't mind using public transportation
  • celebrity following- I would give up Perezhilton if my life depended on it :P
  • watching TV.. this would be a stretch but I definitely think I could find stuff to fill my time with- just think of how much more productive I would be if I didn't watch TV :D
Vices I would NEVER give up
  • the internet- how would I blog?!
  • my cellphone- eternally connected :)
  • eating out- sometimes a meal that you don't have to cook is just too yummy to pass up!
What vices would you or would you not give up?!

Another terrible commuting morning...

I woke up today to another winter storm- not as bad as yesterday's but still bad enough that my car was slipping and sliding and almost got stuck getting out of my driveway.

I made it to the bus on time though and was happy to be letting someone else handle the drive down to Toronto once I was on the bus.

I fell asleep like usual hoping to wake up an hour and a half later in downtown Toronto for another busy day at work. The roads weren't that terrible so I expected the drive to be fairly smooth.

But, oh was I wrong.

I woke up a little while after falling asleep. We were in Milton which is a town 20 MINUTES AWAY FROM GUELPH! It ended up taking 2 hours altogether to get from Guelph to Milton with another hour or so drive to Toronto from Milton when it would usually only take 20 minutes?!

All in all, we ended up getting to Toronto 3 HOURS later! So when I would usually get into work at 8, I got in at 9:30!

I don't know if I will be able to keep doing this- and the Winter is only beginning! This is only the second day of bad weather we've had. Its not that I care that I care about sitting on the bus, I just feel bad arriving late to work because I want to show my boss I am dedicated to this job so I can hopefully get promoted soon! Its hard to do that when I'm sitting on the bus without any other options to get to Toronto.

Flights on sale at Westjet!

I am totally torn right now because I just checked Westjet and they are having a major seat sale on their flights to Winnipeg! I checked 2 days ago and the total cost of a trip there and back would be over $600.00 but now its around $390! Almost half price!

Now I am torn though because I haven't asked for the time off between Christmas and New Years and I don't know if I should because I was away alot recently but the flights are soooo cheap and I really want to go visit *A* and his family/friends!

Man, now I am in a dilemma. Should I ask the boss later today if I could have the time off or leave it to last minute and see if she just gives me the time off? By that time though, flights may have gone back up in price?!

What to do?!

No holidays for this girl :(

Everyone has been asking me if I get any days off over the holidays. And sadly, I don't. I am not that upset because my new boss has been awesome at allowing me to take days off in the past 2 months for cattle shows (Royal Winter Fair, etc), so I am very grateful! As a new employee, I also don't expect any time off at this point- I more or less have to "prove myself" and put my time in before I get real vacation days.

I guess a lot of my friends though (even at their new jobs) have gotten days off for holidays. *A* gets the week off between Christmas and New Years, hence why he is flying home for Christmas and staying until his birthday on the 3rd.

I really have no need to take any days off- my roommates are all gone home after exams, my best friends are all busy with school, or are in Australia for that fact, and *A* will be gone back home to Winnipeg. So really, I might as well just work because I won't have anything else to do.

Just as long as I get my Christmas shopping done before hand I should be fine. And that shouldn't be hard to do considering I am in the heart of the shopping district in Toronto!

Christmas presents- where do I begin?!

For some reason, I am putting Christmas shopping off. I don't know if its because I haven't had much time to shop or because I have had bad luck when I have attempted to shop, but I just don't have the ambition to go out and get my shopping done quite yet.

I do however know, or at least have a rough idea, of what I am going to buy each of my family members and friends:
  • Best friends- gave them all their home made Ginger snap cookies and letter set. Total cost $15.00
  • Dad- Farm website that I almost have all finished. I am just working on getting the domain switched over so the website can be launched.
    Total cost= free!!!
  • Mom- Chi hairspray (she asked for it), Michael Buble CD and party tray (that I'm making her). Total cost estimated= $50.00
  • Sister- I am getting her a make-up bag filled with make up goodies in it.. I think she's going to love it! Total estimated cost- $50.00
  • Two brothers- no idea yet! I plan on asking them this weekend what they would like. Total estimated cost= $100.00
  • Donation to the Lymphoma Foundation of Canada in honour of my dad and grandfather.. Total estimated cost= $100.00
  • Donation to a Winnipeg charity for *A's* family- Total estimated cost= $100.00
  • Andrew's presents- which I have not got him yet! And I wouldn't mention what I got him on here anyways because he reads this blog! Total estimated cost= $175.00
Total Estimated Cost of Christmas Gifts= $690.00

This seems like an astronomical amount when you add up all the numbers- I am really going to try hard to get the best deals I can and find nifty gifts so I can try and save as much as possible!

A possible trip to Los Vegas...

My dinner date last night with my best friends from home was fabulous! We went to Jack Astors (I ended up spending $38.17- we got 2 drinks each and all got steak so it was a bit of an expensive meal). We must have sat around for probably 2 1/2 hours just chatting and catching up. Catching up with friends from home is so awesome because there is always something to talk about, and you feel like you can just pick up wherever you last left off. Its also always nice to mention someones name, and they automatically know who your talking about and can give you the latest update :) Oh small towns!

We were sad to also say goodbye to *S* as she leaves for Australia tomorrow. We almost all cried when we had a big group hug at the end of the night- it made me miss the girls even more when I had to say bye to them all.

One of the big ideas that we did discuss though as an option for mine and my best friend *K's* Champagne birthday in 2010 (we share the same birthday of June 23rd) was to go to Las Vegas! We all have wanted to go before and what a great way to celebrate than go for someone's champagne birthday! I told the girls that I would be in charge of organizing the trip- this way if we start planning now, no one can come back to me in June and say they didn't have enough $$ or booked something else on they weekend!

I am looking already for something on either the June 19th weekend or June 25th weekend- I figure we could go for 3 days, 4 nights, all inclusive for somewhere between $500-$700 including flights, hotels, everything!

I know as a personal financer and *trying to be* saver, spending money like this would be redic and somewhat reckless- especially just to go to Vegas!

BUT you only live once and I have never really celebrated my birthday with big celebrations and have always wanted to go to Vegas- why not go now when I'm young?!

Can't wait for the festivities in 2010!!!!

It is NOT a Good Morning...

I walked by a lady this morning at work who said "Good morning!" and all I wanted to scream back was "NO ITS NOT!"

I had to travel this morning from my best friend's place east of Toronto on the GoTrain to get back into Toronto for work. That part was fairly easy. *K* and I left early this morning due to the first snow storm of the season in the GTA so I'd make my train on time. I actually ended up catching an earlier train which was fine by me. I was just happy I didn't have to drive in this crappy snowy weather. Although, I'm not complaining- I love the fact that we have snow!

The worst part of my morning is yet to come. I had forgot how to get from the GoTrain station down to the subway once we arrived at the platform, and somehow, I ended up outside down behind Union Station in Toronto in the most uncomfortable pair of high heel boots in the blowing, wet weather! I had to walk about 10 minutes to get back to a subway stop.

Still, the worst is yet to come.

I got on the subway- I only have to ride it for 3-4 stops before I'm at work. I couldn't find a seat because the subway was so jammed packed, so I had to stand on the subway in my ridiculous high heels. And then at one stop, they made us all get off the subway because there was an accident at one of the stops and the train was out of service! NO WAY?! Can my morning get any more stupid?

10 minutes later, I was still waiting for a train! I had missed 2 more trains because they were packed with people from the delay. I couldn't believe how rude people were on the subway trying to get back on the train- its as if people threw etiquette out the window and we were just a herd of animals running and pushing to get a spot on the subway. I don't think I have ever been pushed more in a span of 5 minutes by compete strangers than this morning!

By the time I got off at my stop, I was exhausted- and it was only 8:30am :( Here is to a long, tiring day at work now. I will be thankful to get on the peaceful Greyhound bus tonight to head back to Guelph!

Dinner date tonight....

I am taking the GOTrain east bound towards Oshawa tonight after work to meet up with my best friends from home for dinner. Conveniently enough, *K* one of my friends lives where we are meeting up for supper so I am just staying at her place tonight. I have my bag all packed so I can just head back into Toronto tomorrow morning for work and then head home tomorrow night to Guelph.

I am excited to see the girls seeing as it has been almost 2 months since we last saw each other. It will also be nice to see *S* before she heads off to Australia this Thursday!

I am not sure where we are going yet for supper but I hope its somewhere yummy and affordable. I haven't had much of an appetite lately so I am not looking to spend very much on supper anyways.

As a nice little treat, I also got all the girls a little Christmas present and baked them Ginger Snap cookies which I found the recipe from Being Frugal. Thanks for the delicious recipe BF!

(Hopefully) a smooth transition of transferring the car.....

Now that my parents have a new car, we have to transfer the ownership of their old car to me (yippee!) but it will be a bit of a lengthy process as probably many residents with cars in Ontario already know. I know that ServiceOntario is the place to go now in Ontario for any services that the government offers so I went to their website which was very helpful.

Before I went rushing out though to an office, I did want to confirm with someone what the exact documents were that I needed before I rushed to the Driver and Vehicle Issuer in Guelph (these are the people you have to see regarding anything driver and vehicle related in Ontario!) There was a number listed on the website which I called to talk to someone. Within a matter of a few minutes, I was told that I need the following documents to process a transfer:
  • sworn statement for tax exemption if car is gifted from family member (located on the website)
  • transferring plate form which is at the D & V issuers office
  • sign off on ownership (this is on the back of the ownership that I have in the glove-box of my car- the current owner has to fill this out completely)
  • insurance information
  • safety/emissions test (my mom just recently did this!)
Once I gather all of this information, I can go to a local D & V issuer office, and have everything done for a cost of $10.00!!

I will work this weekend to get everything collected so I can go sometime next week and this done! Hopefully everything goes smoothly....

Let it snow, let is snow, let it snow..

I don't think I have ever been this excited for snow! Especially considering it is December 7th and there has not been one snowstorm yet?!

And like magic, it is finally snowing in Toronto! I am eagerly awaiting to see if it actually stays and doesn't just melt! The news is reportedly calling for a snowstorm in Toronto on Wednesday! Hopefully the buses are canceled- would that include a Greyhound bus to work from Guelph to Toronto?! I sure hope so :D

At least a girl can dream....

Its Official.. I am now paying for a car...

I just signed the forms with my family's Insurance company that makes me the sole owner on the 2001 Grand Marquis that my parents gave to me. (Update: They just recently bought a 2007 black Chrysler 300- I can't wait to drive it when I go home this weekend!) Now that I am the sole owner on the car, I am now going to be paying a monthly insurance fee.. another expense! They just seem to keep adding up!

The payment will automatically come out of my bank account at the end of the month. The only major bonus is that the cost per month is only $95.62 which is only $1,147.44 for the year! A thinks this is not correct and is not enough for insurance considering I am under 25, a female and I do have one ticket (oops!). But, because my car isn't really worth very much, we didn't put any collision on it, so perhaps that is why it is so cheap. Whatever my mom did to talk them down to under a $100.00 a month, I am happy!

I am just so thankful that I have a car- I have always joked that as long as the car had 4 wheels and drove, I would be happy! I realize that for time being this car suits me just fine- hopefully in the next few years as I save, save save, I can maybe step out and get something that is a little more appealing to the eye :)

At least I don't have to walk to my bus stop now that Winter is here...

This, that, and more...

I had a really relaxing weekend- I didn't really get up to much but that is a nice change for me. I probably should have been out Christmas shopping because I don't want to leave it too last minute but hey, there are still 17 more days till Christmas!!

On a good note, my best friends are all meeting up close to Toronto for a special going away dinner with my 3 best friends including "S" who is leaving for Australia this coming Thursday. Its awesome that I will get to see her before she leaves now and I will also get to see my other best friend "K's" apartment that she has while she is attending school there. I will be spending the night and then taking the train back into Toronto for work on Wednesday morning! I am looking forward to this overnight adventure.. and of course, looking forward to seeing my best friends.

On a bad note, I was all lined up to do a focus group this coming Wednesday for $100.00 and I was so psyched because it seemed like such an easy way to make much needed money. And then I got a call yesterday saying they had overbooked the focus group so they had to cancel. Darn! I will keep looking for more groups to attend but not sure if I will be as lucky :(

On a total other side note- all of my roommates are frantically studying their butts off for their final exams that started today and how freakin' happy am I that I don't have to study because I don't have to write exams?! WOOHOO :D It is such a relaxing feeling knowing that I graduated from University and never have to worry about writing exams.. well, until I decide to pursue post-graduate studies, etc. Until that day comes, I am totally enjoying the freedom!

Too many surprises in the past 2 weeks...

Surprises, surprises, surprises. First, it was A's job offer in Calgary (which he isn't taking by the way) and now secondly, one of my best friends from home- one of the ones who ditched me a few weeks back, is leaving for Australia! And she told me and our other best friends through a facebook message! AND... SHE IS LEAVING NEXT THURSDAY!

I was in shock last night as I read the message and one of my friends even replied to the message saying "is this a joke?!" But sadly, it isn't. My friend "S" decided to go with her boyfriend to Melbourne, Australia for 4 months until March to tag along as her boyfriend finds a job over there. She told us it was a last minute decision and they may even be leaving on an earlier flight because they are on a "waiting" list for cheaper flights.

The worst part is that I haven't seen S since Thanksgiving (on a side note and a bit of a rant- I would have saw her in November had she not ditched me!) but now I won't see her until she comes back in March. She is having a going away party this Saturday night but I'm not going home this weekend so I won't see her :(

As happy as I am for her that she gets to travel and see another part of the World than just our small town where we come from, I am also a bit rattled that this is such a last minute decision on her part. I mean, she didn't even give one hint to any of us, her best friends, that she wanted to go to Australia!?! Oh well, there's nothing I can do now but only hope that she has the best time down under!

I got a good chuckle...

I was desperate last night to finish New Moon before my roommate and I were going to see the movie last night. So instead of taking a nap on the bus on the way home from work, I power read and got through 150 pages to finish the book! Soooo good I might add-especially the ending ;)

I finished reading the book about 20 minutes away from home and decided to "shut my eyes" just for a quick nap. But when I woke up, I was way past my bus stop!!!! I had fell asleep and missed my stop! I jumped up and asked the bus driver if she could drop me off where we were- she agreed no problem.

And so, I started making the embarrassing walk back to my car to go home.- it was about a 15 minute walk. And then of course, it started raining too- and I didn't have an umbrella. At that point, I couldn't do anything but laugh :P

On a total other side note, New Moon actually turned out to be really great! There were 2 things that I didn't like in the first movie Twilight- Bella was annoying and secondly, the movie strayed too far away from the book. In New Moon, Bella actually was pretty and somewhat manageable to listen too and the movie followed the book quite closely. I was pretty impressed! Of course, the movie is always good when you are choosing between 2 hunks like Jacob and Edward. I think I am still on Team Edward but I could easily be swayed :P haha Can't wait for the next movie already!

My quiet night in...

A lot has been taking place lately and I just needed one night in to relax. All of my roommates went out last night for an evening out on the town and instead of going like I usually would, I opted to stay at home.

I finished decorating my Christmas tree by adding some beautiful gold ribbon I found at the $ store (steal!), I baked sugar cookies and added the awesome icing that I have been trying to find a recipe for (I will post the recipe/pictures later), I made meatballs and let them simmer in the crockpot, did some paperwork, did laundry, sat on the couch and watched the Hills and City season finales, had a glass of wine and even read New Moon.

It was so nice and relaxing all by myself doing what I thought was nothing when I actually got a lot done! It was a great evening in to get some much needed rest and relaxation. The only thing that was missing was A :)

Now on to the New Moon madness tonight!

My first student loan payment- out and paid!

The end of the month now means that my student loan payments will begin and last night was the first student loan repayment! Woohoo! I am now on my way to financial freedom- one payment at a time.

In the near future, I am looking at bumping the payments up from $220.72 which they are currently to somewhere around $600-$700 so I can pay my loan off sooner rather than later. You always hear about those people who are married with children who are STILL paying off their student loans! Yikes, I definitely don't want that to be me so I'm going to forgo other expenses (i.e. my usual habits of shopping, leisurely activities, LCBO, traveling, etc) so I can save more! I hope I have the will power :)
