mycellmyterms.com really works!

Inspired by fellow personal finance blogger Krystal over at Give Me Back My Five Bucks, I went onto the mycellmyterms website to see what the hype was all about.

Krystal had blogged that she saw this idea on Dragons Den (which A and I watch occasionally) and thought it was a great idea! The only bummer was that the services are only available in Ontario for time being with hopes to expand in many different provinces in the future. Basically, you go to the website, create a cellphone plan that suites your lifestyle or your "ideal" cellphone plan and then submit it. Cellphone providers from across Canada then offer you the best deals they can based on your cellphone plan that you would like. You can even counter off the offers they make you! It is such a good idea considering cellphone costs here in Canada are REDIC compared to other countries!

So because I live in Ontario, I thought I would go try it out. So I signed up on the website, and created my idea cellphone plan which included a Blackberry curve which I would be willing to pay up to $250.00 for with a 1 year contract, great weekend/weeknight minutes, unlimited long distance, 500 minutes of local calls, 10 numbers that I can call unlimited too, unlimited text messaging, and 0.5GB of email/internet for the blackberry. I know, I know- I was being a bit unrealistic in that this plan seems too good to be true BUT within 20 minutes, I got 2 offers back from Rogers and Telus- here they are below:

The column on the left in blue is what I asked for- the two columns are the right are the 1st offer from Bell and then the 2nd offer from Telus. As you can see, they are quite expensive but really great deals. I am going to try today and counter offer them on the price per month for the contract and the number of anytime minutes. I am considering also dropping out of my Bell contract alot sooner than expected (July 2010) because I'm getting sick of being held hostage with Bell. And hey, if I can get another great offer on a cellphone plan, why would I NOT switch?

Did I also mention that the services on the website are FREE!! Woohoo!!!

well done. Your journalism has been noticed in the city and studied by some folks in a boardroom. I'm from Warkworth and I looked at you wondering if I know you or your family... I think I do.
